The Time Has Come

Friends, Romans, Bloggermen...
I am excited to announce that March is upon us. Do you know why this is significant? If you know me in real life, I believe you are probably already rolling your eyes. You may actually even be having flashbacks to a time when I tortured you in real life.
If you haven't guessed by now, March is my birthday. And lucky for me, it's the 30th, which gives me (us) an ENTIRE MONTH to celebrate! Crazy thanks to Tiff, who already noted in a previous comment that she was beginning her own form of celebrations in honor of the event.

I won't make you buy me presents and throw me parties. That's what my husband does. But I warmly invite you to be aware of the fact, and act in accordance. There are only 28 days left.

Now. Speaking of... I am in the market for a new camera. My husband casually mentioned that the birthday might be a good time for such a gift. So I have about 20 days to figure out which one I want. HELP ME!!! Tell me about your camera. Do you love it? Do you recommend it? Will it turn me into Brittany and give me incredible skills and talents? Which one should I buy? Or better yet, which one should Skip buy for me?

Sadly, I just have a little point and shoot. I need a new one too... That means I will be checking back to see what everyone recommends so I can start planning now for my AUGUST birthday.

Do you like how I turned this in to all about me? I am good at that...

At least you weren't born on the Ides of March.

So, my husband is the photog around these parts, but I have been known to occasionally grab his camera. I say Digital SLR, specifically Nikon. Our is a dated D100, but it does what he wants it too. There are several to choose from at different price points. The D40 is the cheapest, smallest digital SLR -- the most bang for your buck if you're economizing or just learning. The Canon Digital Rebel is good too. My husband uses Canon 20D at work, but he prefers the Nikon menu system, so that's what we've got at home. That's not all we have ahem....count them 7 cameras ranging between digital slrs to medium format to 35mm. Figure out which you like and stick with it because it sure makes buying extra lenses, etc easier....

I have the nikon d40x - It does a lot of cool stuff, however, I do not how to use any of it... sigh. I will learn one day. However, the auto feature is amazing and easy to use... ha.

hope that helps.

I have the Canon G9 and it's not an SLR but supposedly the best you can get without having to have SLR knowledge. It's not tiny, but it fits in my purse.

sorry, I have no camera advice...but I wanted to say, "Happy Upcoming Birthday!"

My friend has the Cannon that is just below professional because you don't have to know what all those buttons mean, but can still take a great picture. She loves it. Mine is the Cannon power shot. It's just OK. It documents our life and is small. Happy Birthday, I really thought you were going to say March means March Madness. Ha, ha, ha.

Nikon D40 will do everything you want and then some. I don't have one but I've been stalking it for months. If I had a birthday coming up, I'd for sure be leaving the magazine ad around the house in easy to find places.

When is your birthday again? I forgot.
Oh don't be silly...I know. We like to refer to the month as "Mandrea."

Paige's camera is really cool. She got it after I got my Canon SLR so she could be better than me.

I really like having extra zoom in my camera and also the face recognition dots. They make my pictures a little bit better. But I've seen your work, and it is already good. Happy shopping.

Lovin' the new look! I've attempted to figure out how to change my blog but I get impatient and give up. Can it be explained easily? Happy Birthmonth! We have a Cannon Sureshot. Its not fancy but it takes great pics!

Andrea,
I love reading your blogs. They are hilarious. You have good sense of humor.
Well, being an amateur photographer, I would agree with your friend. You definitely want to go SLR digital.
I wouldn't go for a D100 (too expensive). You can start with a Nikon D40 and then in a few months you'll get comfortable with them and then build from there. you can get one for about $400.
Nikon's are usually the best because of their lenses capability (more durable and they are transferable from other brands)

If you want a cheaper version digital camera, I recommend the Cannon PowerShot 750 or 850(about $220)

I have both cameras and they are the excelent. On a scale of 5, I give both a 5 star.

Your family looks beautiful. Keep nurturing it.
My love to you all,
Eddie

I hope March is full of celebrations. I think you (and I) should have a month long birthday (mine is not in March, I just vote for month long birthdays).
I have the Canon Rebel XTi. It is not small, but it makes me look like a decent photographer. It is really easy to use and takes beautiful photographs. If you are not a super serious photographer and you don't want to spend over $850 on a camera, I recommend it. It also helps to spend millions of dollars at Costco and put all of your purchases on their American Express card so that you get 2 big checks back to spend at Costco so you can justify the camera.

I have the Canon Rebel which I LOVE but only get it if you want a big camera. Otherwise get the Canon SD 800IS. I LOVE it and it's little and takes great photos and does fun things. Good luck and happy b-day month!

I have a Canon Rebel. That's what Brittany has too. I've learned lots of good tricks with it, Britt has taught me alot too. Sadly, it's not all the camera. Britt can do stuff that I can't do, with the same camera. Got mine at Costco. I'm looking into getting this crazy big lens. So excited.
I was dying laughing as soon as you said March. Of course I remembered why this was an important month...
Laughing at your college campus post. During the summer I went to an ASU game and I was literally shocked at the attire. My mouth was dropped open. My brother in law graduated from there and he said girls would wear bikini tops and hot pants to class. Maybe it's wrong of me to think this way, but if they get raped, it's their own d**n fault. Love you girl.

Canon, Nikon, Nikon, Canon- the proverbial Ford-Chevy debate of the camera world. Each has its merits and its deficiencies. Ignore the hype. Buy a Dodge.

I use a Sony A100 and I frickin' love it. One of its unique features is its octagonal image capturing thingy. (Obviously I don't know all the technical terms.) It captures each pixel as an octagon shape, rather than a rectangle, so when you zoom in really close you don't get the pixellated "boxy" look that most cameras will give you.

It also has a kickass image stabilizing feature, good because we ain't getting any younger and Parkinson's is just around the corner.

And lastly, it starts focusing as soon as you put your eye to the viewfinder, rather than when you depress the button halfway, which means you can capture "motion" images faster and easier- like your kids riding scotters up and down the driveway in their skvvies, for example.

There, that's my vote. Happy effing birthday. And I'm every bit the photgrapher Brittany is, how dare you not mention me by name. www.myspace.com/happyjoy1971 peruse my photo albums.

I love it when happyback posts - cuz I read it to myself with a "Boston Robb" or "Will Hunting" voice and it makes me feel hilarious inside.
