And A Time To Every Purpose

In April of 1995, I was a missionary in Africa. I remember a young boy telling me one day that there had been a big bomb in America; in Oklahoma. Did I know about it?
Of course, I did not. I had no idea. He described it a bit, but I really didn't pay much attention. I assumed it probably wasn't a big deal, although in retrospect, if they were hearing about it in a tiny third world African country, that should've triggered the "big deal" cue for me.

I lived in Oklahoma at the start of the new millenium. I didn't really like the state, but there were some nice people. While there, I watched the construction of the OKC bombing memorial. I moved away, and moved back again a few years later. The memorial was complete, and was pretty amazing.

I was happy to leave Oklahoma when I married Skip. We have had to go back a couple of times under somewhat stressful circumstances. We returned this morning from yet another trip. It was a colossal waste of time (minus the three days without kids and the uninterrupted time together), and we will have to go back again next month.

There are so many lessons to be learned during our go in mortality. God forbid our opportunity should be cut short before our learning is enough. I rely on faith and hope; they are powerful forces. And at the end of the day, it's me and this guy, and our five amazing children, trying our best to do what what God would have us do. I feel good about that.

That's a beautiful memorial. I'm sorry your trip there wasn't more productive. On the bright side, you guys look great, so, at least you have that going for you.

I love the pictures of the memorial! #1 especially rocks! Could you do me a teeny favor though and crop out the car tire in the hands photo? I am so just kidding you 'cause I think you will laugh. Sorry the trip wasn't so useful but glad you made the best of it. :) Oh- i laughed about you being to busy being perfect to join my pity party. Good one.

Beautifully put...and beautiful pictures, Andrea. I love the one of you and Skip at the end.

Sorry it proved a waste of time and that you have to go back again next month. I would totally watch your kiddos if I lived close to you.

Come on, Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping 'cross the plains? What could better in winter than good ole Oklahoma? And to think that you get to do it again. Wow, you are lucky.

Beautiful pics. Looks so serene and almost fall-like. Love the one of you and S. You are the most photogenic couple ever.

Sorry about the wasted trip, my friend. Been thinking about you.

I've never seen the memorial. It is really beautiful!

I'm so sorry your trip was a waste of time. That is so frustrating! And again, sorry you have to go back :(

Ugh.

On the bright side, you two look amazing and your pictures were great.

Don't know if that helps... :)

Going to Oklahoma makes my right eye twitch and my PTSD kick in. But like my lovely wife said, the best part of this trip was spending time with one another. Another perk is coming home to my six year old daughter who missed me lots and lots. While Andrea was lying half-naked on a table getting her back massage I had the pleasure of making dinner with Noe. We made spaghetti, did some crazy dances while the noodles boiled, and laughed and laughed at our silliness. After dinner, Andrea took the boys to scouts and Noe and I did the dishes, put air in my bike tires, and ate powdered donuts. And guess what, my right eye isn’t twitching anymore.

Okay your lens is RIDICULOUS! Your pictures are so beautiful. Clearly it's more than the lens, your skills are mad.

I'm sorry the trip wasn't as productive as you had hoped, but I could use some alone time with my guy so I am jealous.

You didn't take those pictures on this trip, did you. Fall leaves in OK in February? Come on.....

They look great though. I'm with you on the disgust over wasted trips to court, especially when you have to fly across the freaking world to get to court in the first place.

I rememeber working on a project in April of 1995 when my old, shaggy, chain-smoking, never-take-anything-seriously coworker Jim Kramer came into the office, obviously shaken, unusually grave, and said he just heard something big happened in Oklahoma City. I looked up; I had just passed through there and spent a couple of days with an old missionary companion the summer before. I need to go back and see that Memorial.
