My kids are visiting their father for the summer. I will admit, the phone has come in handy for keeping in touch. However, please join with me for a moment in reviewing yesterday's text message conversation:
ME: Where's your sister?
HIM: Right here.
ME: Let me text her for a few.
HIM: No. She's being a total brat.
ME: Um, who pays ur phone bill?
HIM: I'm serious. She is blatant disobedient. (I know, incorrect useage of an adjective here)
ME: When u pay the billl, u can make the rules.
HIM: She is bossy and rude and bratty!
ME: Not my problem. Put her on.
HIM: WHY?
ME: Bummer that I'll have to disconnect your phone.
And he never put her on. With just a few simple clicks of the mouse, the phone service was suspended. And at no additional cost to us! How handy is that?!?

The key lessons to learn here:
1. You don't get to tell Mom "no" and expect that to turn out well.
2. When you are financially responsible for yourself, you have much more freedom.
3. Stay in school, get a good job, and support yourself so that you can one day cut those apron strings and tell Mom "no" ALL YOU WANT.
The end.

Oh, I like this. Maybe I should get my kids cell phones now so that they can learn the importance of not saying no to your mom.
I love it. You are a fantastic mom, Andrea.
I am glad that saying no to you did not turn out well. (referring to #1) I think your course of action is going to be much more effective than what I always do...shriek like a banshee until somebody does what I command.
I was 15 in 1985. That's right...add insult to injury.
he he he...LOVE IT!
I like it!
That is Awesome..We tell Sadie that if she wants her cell phone she better babysit for us. Texting well she better do her own laundry for that special service!!! And she does. very willingly.
Nothing like a little sweet, sweet revenge on your kids. Does a mother good.
You are my hero!
I'm going to call you all the time for advice when I have kids. You rule.
I so love that you did that!! You are my hero!
OH, I do love to see good parenting in action!
Please write a parenting book.
I love your follow through.
Bravo mama!
I'm think I'm scared of you.
So did you turn it back on?
Christie took my comment...so I add a hearty AMEN SISTA!
I'm getting my 9-year-old a phone now, specifically so I can shut it off.
