this is about a week's worth of laundry. shirts to be hung are draped over the couch. socks are still in a pile, haven't sorted them yet. but this is more or less the end result. isn't it beautiful? in fact, i'm so enamored by it, that i'm considering leaving it there. before you think that's weird, let me explain a few points of order:1. if you've ever seen a child look for something in their drawer, you will know that inevitably, they go for whatever lies on the bottom of the drawer. to get to it, they rummage through all the nicely folded clothes, thus making them not-so-nicely-folded. this makes me sad.
2. at this moment, the laundry is pretty much done. except that it's not, because my whole family is actually wearing clothes right now. which means in about 2 hours, after baths, there will be more laundry.
3. nothing in this pile smells odd, has a stain, or holds living creatures in its pockets.
4. nothing in this pile is missing.
now. those are simple points. i don't think i'm out of line in presenting them. my original thought, my brainchild of domestic duties, that i leave this laundry right where it is, actually ties in to address all four points of order. if no one moves this laundry, the drawers will never be a mess; the laundry (eventually) will at some point be DONE; it will always stay clean; more grasshoppers will live; and everyone will always know where their clothes are. each week, i'll do a little more, and eventually, it will pile up into a laundry utopia. i realize in order for this to work, however, we will have to move to a nudist colony, which could potentially be embarrassing for my entire family and me. thus spawns my laundry quandry.

You won't believe me, but I have had the exact same thought regarding laundry. I find myself looking at what my family is wearing and wondering if I can fit it all into one load or not. I've started doing a load or two every day so it doesn't pile up. Then it isn't so hard to "let go" of the clean clothes every day. You'll always have more tomorrow!
I'm so happy I've found your blog! You have a beautiful family.
I'm glad to have found your blog too! And I hear ya on the laundry issue...I once heard it described as an "eternal principle" without a beginning or end...that helps, a little. I just found a picture yesterday that I had taken a few months ago of all the clean laundry stuffed in a pack n play to get it up off the floor...it filled the entire pack n play and extended up beyond the top to form a nice round dome of clean clothes.
Beautiful family!!
just so that I can get every last piece of laundry done in the house, I actually force the family out of the clothes they are wearing that day and we watch a movie in the nude while I do the last load. the sense of satisfaction cannot be replaced...to say that every article of clothing in the house is clean.
of course, this isn't true, but I have thought about actually doing this before...
