Gratuitous Link

SO. In my church, I teach the little three year olds. They're called Sunbeams. They have spent the past 2 years in the nursery, and in January of the year they turn 4, they move up into the Big Kids class... which we call Primary. It's a big transition. They have to sit for essentially two hours, listening to lessons and singing songs. It can be a disaster if people come unprepared or are not very good at their job.

These are some of my adorable Sunbeams.

Enter... the MASTER singing lady. Her name is Melanie. For about 20 minutes, this woman is responsible for teaching the kids some pretty difficult church songs. Make no mistake, the songs are fantastic and teach excellent gospel principles. They are, however, a bit of a mouthful for a three year old child. Our lady is one of the two best I have ever seen. And I am stingy with my praise, indeed. So this says a lot.

Some of my friends have this same responsibility in their own churches. I have been trying to summarize her activities and email them, which frankly is time consuming and cumbersome. So I came up with this brilliant idea to talk Melanie into starting a blog and posting her ideas with some photos. Apparently, Melanie is about seven months more brilliant than I am. She has a blog, and you can see all her ingenuity by clicking there yourself. It's called The Crazy Chorister
and you want to do your kids a favor and pass this link along to your own church's music chick. I have ten Sunbeams, and they pay attention to her. 'Nuff said.

Andrea,

I hope I'm okay looking at your blog....but, what can I say to this? I believe that is the kindest, most amazing compliment someone has ever said to me. Thank you so much. Its people like you who make me think I might be good at this. You made my day!

Thanks for this- our chorister could use a little help :)

A good primary chorister is so important!! It really makes such a HUGE difference to the kids. If she has the attention of all 10 sunbeams for 20 minutes...then she is truly my hero!!

Cute kids!!

I am passing this along, thanks. I hope those Sunbeams appreciate your quick wit and charm. Although I can't help but think your humor would be more suitable in a Sunday school class.

Thanks for all your clever comments. You make me smile every day.

I've had that calling twice. It's my favorite.

Did you bring a black backdrop to class for a mini-shoot with the Sunbeams? I am cracking up.

The Chorister can make or break it, huh? Our's is way cool too. :)

I subbed for the chorister last week. It was really fun. We have over 250 kids in primary though... so it was challenging.

I also was jus called to sunbeams. (Probably since Braylen was having MAJOR issues with leaving nursery for Primary.) ☺

The kids crack me up, and I love that I can sit on the floor with them in class and take my shoes off!!

I am totally bookmarking that site! JUST IN CASE.

Whoa...that is some endorsement. For the Sunbeams to be enthralled is a very fabulous compliment to her. I'm gonna go lurk on her blog, now. Thank you, my dear.

I love the pictures of your Sunbeams.

Ah, I thank you- and Melanie. That email you sent earlier was awesome so I'm glad that I can get more ideas on how to do this chorister thing.

Because I'm all about taking other people's ideas and running with them.

You are awesome Andrea! I love it when people are able to praise others and their talents. I'll check her out.

What adorable pictures. Did you take them? Way to go, super teacher. And if I ever get lucky enough to be the primary chorister, you better believe I'll be stealing all your friend's ideas.

Did you get permission from all those kids' mommies to be putting their picture on the big bad web?!?!?! :) I hope you're getting copies to the parents. Those are great shots!

And thank you for this! Now all I need is some prescription strength deodorant. This calling is a blast, but man, it makes me sweat!

Darn. I wish I'd known about her last year when I was in that calling (which is the best calling in the whole church in my opinion)!

Love those kid pictures! I just took pics of the nursery kids on Sunday and they were...um...not as cute. Lots of cookie crumbs on cheeks and ugly brown wall dividers as the backdrop.
Yours are way better!

One of my top three church callings ever! Permission to be kooky in church...whats better than that?

Hey. When we were in nursery for 1 & 1/2, music time was such a blessing! The lady wasn't that great, but it was something the kids and leaders looked forward to.
About taking the kids this weekend, I think we are going home for a couple of days. We have not totally settled on the idea yet, so if we stay here, I will give ya a hollar.
Thanks

I think the Primary Chorister would be the hardest calling, but a good workout! I am passing this along, you always link the best things.

I'm lurking... I found you from your Hate Idaho comment on Paige's blog. (I'm in MD and while I love it here, miss Idaho.) I'm also a USU grad in El Ed...

I'm the chorister and was totally stoked to hear about a new site, but I already read your Wonderful Friend. I love her ideas. I think being the chorister is the best calling in the church!

Thank you so much for this link. Now I have something I can do tonight . . . while my husband and kids are visiting with his family. Girls night out anyone???? If there are no takers, I'll just continue catching up on reading blogs and getting my songs ready for tomorrow.
