ADitL: January...Ferris Bueller's Day Off

So a very talented friend of mine who runs The Creative Mama decided it would be fun to do a little (I use that word loosely) project this year called, "A Day In The Life."  She drummed up a group of interested (and possibly interesting??) women and laid out some ground rules.  I thought it might be a fun way to resurrect this forsaken blog, so I jumped in.  Once a month, we all post some snapshots of... you guessed it... a day in our lives.  Not to be confused with Days Of Our Lives, which would include pictures of Marlena and Roman as they defy the aging process and continue battling Stefano.

So here's my first go at it.  Because I work all day, I will have to rely on my phone camera rather than my beloved Rebel.  That said, I make no promises for quality photos.  I don't even make promises of interesting photos, as my life is as average as the next person's.  But it might be fun, so let's do this.

January:  Ferris Bueller's Day Off
My husband had the day off, so I called in a personal day so we could get some of that ever-elusive alone time.  With five kids, (3 teens, 2 tweens), we spend most of our non-working time chauffeuring, or pretending we know how to help them do their homework. It's exhausting.  Here we are, enjoying a day off together, and demonstrating how truly boring and exhausted we actually are.

1I made the pancakes, he made the eggs.  We ate them in the living room and withheld from our cat.  Note her look of sheer disappointment when all that was left was syrup.  Boo.

1.

2.  We ate in the living room so we could finally watch this week's episode of our favorite comedy, Modern Family.  He's most like Jay. I like to pretend I'm most like Gloria.  I'm actually most like Mitchell.

3.  Kissed this baby goodbye.  13 years.  Took my oldest from car seat to driver's permit.  Then it literally went up in smoke.  While we were driving it.   We got our mechanic to give us $200 for it, and feel like we still came out on top.  Farewell, Ye Olde Minivan.

4.  Swallowed the bitter pill and bought an SUV.  Only so many cars fit a family of seven. While my guilt consumes me for the horrific carbon footprint I'm leaving, and while I feel a teense pretentious in such a phat ride, I will say that everything about it is fun and cool and comfy as hell.  And I get to listen to my favorite music on the killer sound system.

5.  Been wearing this shirt for three straight days.  Ain't no shame in it.  AFC championships coming up.  I can't grow a hideous beard, so I wear dirty laundry.  It's only weird if it works.

6.  Cleaned out our storage files.  Seven years of legal headaches finally over.  Good riddance.  Burn that mother down.

8.  After all that, we were as you can imagine, exhausted.  We curled up on the couch.  My man went to sleep, and I watched this week's Parenthood.  He is most like Zeke.  I like to think I am like nobody on this show, as they are all crazy and dysfunctional... but let's face it, I'm basically Max.  With a hint of Julia.

And that's it.  Maybe my work days will be more exciting?
As part of this project, I'm linking to another gal participating in the ADitL.  Check out Jenn's post over at Ripples and Waves.

You're very funny! I enjoy Parenthood so much and think that my family isn't too bad after each episode. Glad you got to have sweet time with your husband and that you were able to get a vehicle to fit your family. I symbolically burn things more often than I'd like to admit. It's so satisfying! Have a fantastic weekend!

Girl! We are blogging buddies again! I totally bonded with you at the mention of Days of our Lives. Did you know that Sammy is on her last year there, now? I remember watching one summer (probably 1990) in anticipation of a big makeover the show was hinting at. Turned out to be a lame french braid! Anyhow... lol. You are my teenage/tweenage mama hero. Love the story behind the van! You rock! (I must say I expected a few more cat photos? Did you see MY cat? Must schedule playdate for the two. LOL.)

What I love best about Parenthood is that it makes my (extended) family seem normal and quite functional by comparison! I was lol-ing at your comparisons. Great post!

We LOVE Parenthood at our house. But we started watching on Netflix and now have to WAIT for Netflix to update because we're too behind on Hulu! Ugh! Loved your 'day in the my life'!

It pulls my heart strings when you say things like, "Took my oldest from car seat to driver's permit." concerning your beloved Ye Olde Minivan. I feel we should have another moment of silence...

...okay...now we can rejoice about the SUH-WEET UPGRADE!!!!

Yes!!!!!!Burn that Mother DOWN!!!!! Good riddance to those files.

I love your blogging. :)
